Quiet Presence
A comprehensive signage design and build project for the newly opened Grand Nikko Hotel in Sathorn. Every sign throughout the hotel was conceived as an integral architectural element, seamlessly integrated with the interior rather than treated as standalone graphics.
While signage serves the practical purpose of conveying information, it also plays a subtle role in shaping the character of a space. This project sought to create a signage system that blends naturally into its surroundings—like water or air—while quietly expressing the refinement, warmth, and understated elegance found in Japanese aesthetics.
Rather than making a visual statement, the design emphasizes ma—the Japanese concept of spatial balance and pause. Carefully considered layouts, generous white space, and restrained textures and tones create a signage system that gently supports the guest experience throughout the hotel.
Typography was given equal importance. A timeless typeface with subtle classical character and excellent legibility was selected to evoke the quiet warmth and precision of traditional metal type, achieving a balance between clarity and sophistication.
