Japan, Expressed through the Senses Rather than Symbols

How can a space centred on sake convey a sense of Japan? At Marie, we carried forward the brand design developed in Japan while avoiding the literal reproduction of traditional motifs as easily recognisable symbols. Instead, we sought to evoke Japan through physical experience—the tactile qualities of materials, the interplay of light and shadow, and the sense of depth within the space.

FSD carefully interpreted the original design intent and translated it into materials and construction methods achievable in Thailand. By preserving the character of the existing floors and walls and layering them with delicate material expressions and carefully selected accessories, we created a space where newness and the passage of time coexist.

Behind this spatial experience, a dedicated sake cold room preserves the quality of the sake at the heart of each pairing.

Without speaking too explicitly of Japan, Marie is designed to remain quietly in the senses of those who visit. Both its spatial expression and the quality control behind it support an experience centred on the pairing of sake and food.
